The purpose of this site is simple: Educate in a manner that is realistic so that you can take action now. This isn’t a psychology site about demystifying the demented acts of trolls, although we will share information on it if it helps. It’s about identifying them, and doing something positive about it.
I have been a Webmaster for 14 years. The past decade I have been a forum admin, and I currently run a growing community of my own. (Not to mention the other countless online communities I visit from time to time.) I have dealt with cyber-stalkers and trolls of all shapes and sizes — and decided to put this site together to educate other Webmasters and victims. Of course with a dash of attitude and an ounce of humor.
Although there is a level of comical asinine behavior demonstrated by these people, there is also a very serious side to the issue. For one, people get hurt, emotionally and sometimes physically. That’s not even considering the annoyance itself. Your online community suffers and your quality members can quickly become victims. And worse of all, things can get a lot more serious and tragic than the annoyance of a community troll itself.
I will show you techniques of how to check and track IPs, what a proxy server is, how to use other methods for obtaining IPs for identification, who to contact at the offender’s Internet Service Provider, national laws and state resources. I will also show you how to locate other Web sites that a stalker or cyber-bully might be a member of to build your case. Also, what additional tools that come in very handy for troll prevention when you are running a community Web site (such as a forum board). So in essences, I will show you some methods to “track a stalker/troll” so that you can legally protect yourself.
Much of this site is still being updated and created, there is a lot to do still. So please check back frequently for updates and new information.
